| Suffering
an injury can be a very traumatic event.
The process of healing and getting your
body back to the fitness level it was
at before the injury occurred can be
a daunting task. The fear of making
the injury worse, sustaining another
injury, and not knowing how to deal
with the pain keeps many people from
exercising. This can have a detrimental
effect on not only the injury, but on
the entire body.
A personal trainer can be a great asset to anyone taking on injury rehab. We
are trained to know how to properly
assess an injury, understand medical
records, and design an activity program
that is safe and effective. People
with all types of injuries, including
knee, spine, shoulder, hip, arm, even
brain, have greatly benefited from
the skills a personal trainer provides.
Most injury rehab programs start
with basic strengthening exercises.
Personal trainers focus not only on
the injured area, but on the muscle
groups surrounding the injured area.
The stronger the muscles around the
injured area are, the less your body
will rely on the injured joint or
muscle during movements. From there,
a variety of stretching techniques
can be used to help improve range
of motion.
Personal trainers can begin working
with you at your home while you are
still recuperating. Exercise can begin
with or without small weights, using
resistance bands, and basic home-based
exercise equipment. Once you have
gained enough strength, trainers will
begin to gradually add more compound
movements to your training program.
This gives the patient a broader range
of training, and it gives the trainer
a wider choice of exercises to help
promote greater healing while gaining
more strength.
Many people who have completed an
injury rehab program with a personal
trainer have reported being in better
condition following treatment than
they were in before they suffered
the injury. The encouragement, customization,
and safety that a personal trainer
can provide is often the best prescription
for a successful recovery!
